Fire departments are training for more on the roads

(WJAC) — Tuesday, fire companies in Clearfield County responded to a car on fire. But this wasn’t your typical car. Rather, they say it was a Tesla. Fire departments tell us fighting electric car fires is quite different from regular ones. Are local fire departments ready to handle electric vehicle fires as more of these cars hit the streets? For those Clearfield firefighters, they say this was one of the first electric vehicle fires they’ve had to deal with.

I-99 fatal crash victim ID'd as Centre County Deputy Coroner

UPDATE | The Blair County Coroner has identified the I-99 crash victim as Judith Pleskonko, 69, of Philipsburg. According to first responders in Centre County, Plesonko was the acting Centre County Deputy Coroner. Investigators say Pleskonko was reportedly traveling in the southbound lane on I-99 and was involved in a separate crash just moments before being struck. State police say Pleskonko's vehicle, after the initial crash, crossed into the northbound lane through an emergency crossover and came to rest in the northbound lane facing south.

Man accused of crashing into Mifflin Co. home, brandishing weapon in custody

2nd UPDATE |Mifflin County, PA (WJAC) — State police in Lewistown say the man accused of crashing into a Mifflin County home Thursday morning, and then fleeing the scene, has been taken into custody. Troopers say Alrick Manning Jr. was arrested on charges of aggravated assault. UPDATE | State police have released the identity of the suspect accused of crashing into a home in Menno Township Thursday morning and then fleeing the scene.

Missing man's remains found in buried freezer in Tennessee; suspect charged

CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) — The remains of a missing man were found in a freezer that was buried in Tennessee. Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley said on Thursday that a search warrant in Hampton was executed on a 17-acre lot. Three search warrants stemmed from a missing persons report filed on March 31, according to Fraley. Edward Elliott was reported missing by a family member in late March. Elliot had not been seen or heard from since late January, according to court documents.

On remote trail, man stumbles upon heavy, mysterious object possibly from outer space

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A Haywood County man is sharing his story after just discovering a strange object that may have been from outer space. So far, the object hasn’t been inspected by aerospace experts, but the discovery has a lot of people scratching their heads. Justin Clontz, who’s a grounds maintenance worker, found it earlier this week along a remote trail on a property owned byThe Glamping Collective. The unidentified object is about three feet high, and it’s so heavy that the worker had to tow it out of the trail using a lawn mower.

Penn Highlands Health announces expansion into State College area

State College, PA (WJAC) — The State College area is getting a new hospital in the coming months as Penn Highlands expands into Centre County. This will be Penn Highlands ninth hospital in the state. They currently have six locations in our coverage area and are now expanding to State College. Representatives from the hospital say that construction will be finished in late spring and that they are planning to open this coming summer.

Altoona's VA hospital opens call center for veterans

ALTOONA -- The James E. Van Vandt Veterans Affairs Medical Center will launch a new call center Thursday morning for veterans to call and talk to a live operator rather than a series of recordings. The medical center's staff said, up until the launch, vets would call to schedule an appointment or talk to a doctor but couldn't get through, or they'd get frustrated and hang up. Man who beheaded father and placed head on a dinner plate deemed "not competent for trial"

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A man who beheaded his father and placed it in a freezer on a dinner plate will be transferred for mental health treatment and will not stand trial.
