CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — This week, Sandy Township supervisors officially “discontinued" their lawsuit against the city of DuBois. The lawsuit was filed last June to pause the consolidation process with DuBois in the wake of criminal charges being filed against their then city manager Herm Suplizio. Sandy Township then began raising concerns about the city's financial situation, noting that once the consolidation is finalized, both municipalities would "assume all debts, liabilities and duties of each individual municipality.

Chick-fil-A's test menu item will come to restaurants nationwide

UNDATED (WKRC) - Chick-fil-A's test menu item will come to participating restaurants nationwide. Food influencer Markie Devo posted an image on Instagram, revealing the Maple Pepper Bacon Sandwich, as well as Chick-fil-A's peach milkshake, which will be returning to the menu. "The Chick-fil-A summer menu contains one returning item and one test item going nationwide," Devo wrote on the post. The Maple Pepper Bacon Sandwich is made with the following ingredients, per the post: Flavored brioche bunLemon-herb marinated boneless chicken breastPepper jack cheeseLettuceBacon, hand-tossed in a brown sugar and pepper blendTopped with sweet & spicy pickle chipsThe peach milkshake will return to the menu, alongside the new sandwich.

Downtown Pittsburgh bridge closed indefinitely after fire

PITTSBURGH - Officials say a major bridge into downtown Pittsburgh is closed after a fire that began on a construction tarp. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said the Liberty Bridge is closed indefinitely while state transportation inspectors examine the damage from a Friday afternoon blaze. Crews are conducting an $80 million reconstruction project on the bridge. A Transportation Department spokesman tells the paper the fire started in a tarp being used to control painting work and spread to nearby plastic pipes.

PA death row inmate exonerated after 30 years behind bars

Philadelphia, PA (CNN) — A man on death row in Pennsylvania is about to get his first taste of freedom in 30 years. The district attorney dropped all charges against Daniel Gwynn, citing bad and corrupt police work in his case. Gwynn was accused of starting a fire at an abandoned building in west Philadelphia that killed Marsha Smith. According to the DA, the prosecution in Gwynn’s case relied on witness testimony, who told police that he had started the fire.

Police investigating after man suffers fatal fall from State College parking garage

State College, PA (WJAC) — State College Police are investigating after authorities say a 31-year-old man fell to his death early Monday morning. Police say just before 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area near the Beaver Ave. parking garage for a report an unresponsive male. Upon further investigation, authorities determined that the man reportedly fell from the garage and suffered fatal injuries. Police and the Centre County Coroner's Office say investigators are awaiting toxicology results but no foul play is suspected.

'Keeping children fed:' Officials discuss challenges, goals of summer meal programs

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — "Keeping children fed." That’s the goal of many agencies in our region that provide meals and food to families in need. Volunteers at the Centre County YMCA's anti-hunger program say it’s an ongoing challenge. “Today is the last day we are sending out to schools. We have been sending out food that past two days, and we are at 13 hundred backpacks.” The backpack program provides meals for kids in need on weekends.

Giant, 40-foot Santa Claus returns in Philipsburg

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Santa Claus, the super-sized version, is back in town in the Moshannon Valley. The Philipsburg Elks once again heading up the operation over the weekend to put up the giant plywood Santa, which is said to be the tallest Santa Claus display in the state. It was created by local artist Bill Adams in the 1960's and since 2005, Santa and the toy soldiers have been a holiday fixture at the Cold Stream Dam Park along Route 322.

Making a Difference: Kitchen brings community together

STATE COLLEGE - Taproot Kitchen is bringing the community together with some help from other local businesses in Centre County. Gemelli Bakers in State College have been in business for about a year and a half and continues to bring the community together with its baking. "Bread represents community," Gemelli Bakers owner Tony Sapia said. Sapia has had extra hands in the kitchen for the past few weeks to help knead bread dough and assemble pies.
