Huntingdon man charged after attempting to burn down woman's home with her inside

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Huntingdon County say an 83-year-old man is facing several felonies, accused of attempting to burn down a woman's home Monday morning with her still inside it. According to a criminal complaint, Gary Harbst, of Huntingdon, faces numerous charges including attempted homicide, arson, aggravated assault and risking catastrophe. Troopers say just before 8 a.m. Monday, Harbst reportedly drove his UTV from his residence along John Bum Road to the victim's home, located along the 7300 block of Fosters Road in Union Township.

Johnstown man accused of stealing over $30K worth of narcotics from local pharmacy enters plea

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Johnstown area man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of drugs from a local pharmacy has entered a guilty plea in the case. Officials say Matthew Miller appeared in court last week where he reportedly pleaded guilty to one felony count of obtaining possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation. Police charged Miller in 2022 after he reportedly admitted to stealing over $30,000 worth of narcotics from the Martella's Pharmacy location, where he was previously employed.

Video shows cougar come within feet of Washington family in yard

MONROE, Wash. (KOMO) — Compelling home security video caught the moments a wild cougar ran into a Washington state family's yard and came within feet of several people, including a 2-month-old puppy. The incident happened on Saturday when members of the Havener family were outside in their yard in Monroe. As seen on video, a giant cougar ran out of nearby woods and suddenly chased after the family's two cats. Immediately afterward, the cougar can be seen coming within feet of April Havener and her young daughter, along with their puppy.

Coroner IDs passenger killed when car collided with deer in Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Clearfield County coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder has identified the passenger of a Pontiac Grand Prix who was killed early Friday morning when a car collided with a deer in Union Township. Investigators say the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Friday as the driver of the Pontiac, a 28-year-old Luthersburg man, was traveling eastbound on Rockton Mountain Highway. Police say a deer reportedly entered the roadway and was struck by the car.

Lakemont Park to kick off annual 'Holiday Lights on the Lake' this weekend

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — The 26th annual Holiday Lights on the Lake event at Lakemont Park is scheduled to kick off Friday, Nov. 18th. More charges filed against Centre Co. journalist after he was accused of having inappropriate contac

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say more charges have been filed against a local journalist who was previously accused of having sexual communications with an FBI agent who was posing as a teenage girl. Police say following the initial arrest of Christopher Morelli, in mid-December, investigators were contacted by a female who claimed that she was victimized by Morelli in 2011, when she was 14 years old.

Pennsylvania ends polygraph testing of state police recruits

HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania State Police is no longer subjecting recruits to lie-detector tests, saying the agency has lost good job applicants because the tests added time to the hiring process. The state police said Thursday its review of why some applicants were taking other jobs found the polygraphs contributed to the problem by causing unnecessary delays. The decision was first reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, which says the troopers' union is criticizing the decision.
