SCI Cresson property sold

CRESSON -- The State Correctional Institution property, which has remained empty for years, was sold this week. A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of General Services said the property, of more than 300 acres, was sold to Carl Weaver of Smicksburg, Pennsylvania. According to the department, it is unclear what Weaver will do with the property, and his plan for its future was not required with a bid. Weaver made one of four bids offered to the Commonwealth, and was awarded the property for $600,000.

Diddy admits to beating ex-girlfriend in social media post

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sean "Diddy" Combs admitted that he beat his ex-girlfriend Cassie in a hotel hallway in 2016 after CNN released video of the attack, saying in a video apology he was "truly sorry" and his actions were "inexcusable." "I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I'm disgusted now," the music mogul said in a video statement posted Sunday to Instagram and Facebook.

Former Penn State employee charged with fraud; sold computer equipment for personal profit

STATE COLLEGE, Pa (WJAC) — According to court documents, a former Penn State employee has been charged with fraud, accused of purchasing computer and technology equipment, meant for the university servers, and selling it for his own personal profit. Authorities say Daniel Sickels, formerly of Lewistown, Pa, worked for the university, from 2005 to 2017, as a network and systems manager. Investigators say Sickels was responsible for purchasing equipment to maintain the university's computer servers.

Hollidaysburg police investigate video showing person stomping, throwing turtle

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — Police in Hollidaysburg are looking into a case of animal abuse after a video went viral on social media. In the video, you can see a young individual picking up a turtle, tossing it, and at one point kicking the turtle and stomping on it multiple times. Hollidaysburg Borough police said Sunday they're aware of the video and are investigating. They called it a senseless act and the people responsible will be charged pending the outcome of the investigation.

Man being sought in drug delivery resulting in Jefferson County death

PUNXSUTAWNEY - State police in Punxsutawney said they are looking for man who is wanted on several charges, including drug delivery resulting in death. According to state police, they are looking for Ryan Saline, 32, of Treasure Lake Road in DuBois. Saline is described as standing 6 feet tall and weighing 210 pounds. He has blue eyes and brown hair. According to court documents, on August 31, 2017 police were called to a home on Route 322 just outside of Punxsutawney for a deceased 29-year-old man later identified as Michael Sarvey.

UK may ban teachers from discussing gender identity with students: 'Inappropriate'

LONDON (CITC) — The U.K. Department for Education released a draft of new guidance Thursday restricting schools from teaching about gender identity. The materials, which are in the review stage, would advise teachers against discussing the concept that gender lies on a spectrum. They will be open for consultation over the next eight weeks. “Parents rightly trust that when they send their children to school, they are kept safe and will not be exposed to disturbing content that is inappropriate for their age,” Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said.

Woman at Loretta Lynn's Ranch dies after being struck by motorcycle that hit golf cart

HURRICANE MILLS, Tenn. — A deadly crash occurred at Loretta Lynn's ranch as thousands of motorcyclists attend an event there. A crash involving a motorcycle , a golf cart and a pedestrian took place just after 5:30 p.m. Friday on an unnamed roadway of Loretta Lynn's Ranch. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist hit the golf cart after it swerved to avoid a pot hole, then landed on the pedestrian walking across the roadway.

Annual Fourth Fest returns with full schedule of events

Florida police investigating death of PGA Tour player Grayson Murray

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — An investigation is being conducted into the death of two-time PGA Tour winner and Florida residentGrayson Murray. The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department said on Tuesday that it is investigating the 30-year-old golfer's death, which occurred inside a residence within city limits on May 25 at around 11 a.m. Following an initial investigation, police said there does not appear to be any signs of foul play.

GJSD renews contract for superintendent Amy Arcurio

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Greater Johnstown School Board has agreed to renew the contract of district Superintendent Dr. Amy Arcurio. The decision to grant a contract extension was made at a special school board meeting Tuesday evening and comes after the teacher's union gave a vote of "no confidence" to Arcurio in April. The union argued that Arcurio was not doing enough to combat the rise in violence and behavioral issues within the district.
