1 injured, tractor trailer destroyed in rollover crash on I-99

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — One person was injured Monday when a tractor trailer crashed in Bedford County, dispatchers say. Officials say the truck was heading southbound on Interstate 99 with junked cars when it went over the guiderail and down an embankment. It came to rest in the northbound lane about one mile from the Route 56 Exit. Officials say the truck was destroyed and a lane was closed for a while for cleanup.

Altoona Sears among 80 stores to close, company says

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Sears Holdings announced the closure of 80 more stores Thursday, including Sears in Altoona. The company said in a release the closures are part of the company’s process to accelerate its strategic transformation and facilitate its financial restructuring. The company said the stores, five of which are in Pennsylvania, will close in late March 2019. The accompanying Sears Auto Center at the stores mentioned will also be closing.

Huntingdon County man accused of molesting girl for several years

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — State police say a Huntingdon County man is behind bars following an investigation into accusations that he inappropriately touched a young girl over multiple years. Police say in late January, the girl reported to authorities that 48-year-old Duane Somers, of Oneida Township, had been molesting her for approximately four or five years. Police say the alleged assaults took place in both Huntingdon and Mifflin counties, with the latest incident occurring on January 23rd of this year.

Homicide investigation launched after 6 bodies found in Mojave Desert

EL MIRAGE, Calif. (AP) — Deputies found the bodies of six people at a remote dirt crossroads in the Mojave Desert, a scene described as so grisly that Southern California TV stations blurred some of the images captured by their helicopters overhead. San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responding to a request for a wellness check reached the area off Highway 395 outside the community of El Mirage around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and found five of the bodies.

Local waitress credited for saving 2 customers' lives while on the job

And while the place is known for good food fast, a waitress there is now gaining recognition for her ability to act quickly and save lives. Hannah Porada has been serving customers at the Corner Coffee Shoppe in Richland Township for a few months. And in that short time, she has been credited for saving not one, but two lives.

Ribbon cutting held for newly renovated Somerset Co. childcare center

A ribbon cutting took place in Somerset County Thursday morning as a childcare center showed off renovations. The Learning Lamp has been undergoing renovations for the last two years for its Childcare Works for Somerset campaign. The building, located at 451 Aberdeen Drive in Somerset, now has nearly double the capacity it previous had. Natalie Hinton, director of the Learning Lamp, said they are the only STAR 4 center in Somerset County, meaning they have met the highest quality child care standards through staff education, learning environment, leadership and management as well as family and community partnerships.
