Two displaced following morning fire in Bedford Township

Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — 911 officials in Bedford County say two people and their pets were displaced Monday morning following a fire in Bedford Township. Authorities say eight area fire departments were dispatched for a reported house fire along the 1600 block of Chalybeate Road, just after 9 a.m. Officials say the fire heavily damaged the home and the Red Cross was called in to assist the residents. No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.

All state prisons on lockdown after staffers repeatedly fall ill

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel said all state correctional institutions are locked down indefinitely after more than two dozen staff members fell ill to unknown substances over the past month. In addition to the lockdown, all DOC mailrooms will be closed to nonlegal mail until further notice, all DOC personnel must use protective equipment, training will take place at all facilities and all visits are suspended until the lockdown is lifted.

Altoona hosts annual Veterans Day parade

ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — Despite the pandemic, Blair County still celebrated veterans on Saturday, ahead of Veterans Day. The annual parade started around 10:30 a.m. and ended with a ceremony on 11th avenue to honor, thank, and acknowledge those who served. Organizer of the event Lloyd Peck says it was a great turn out for the veterans. "All those months I worked, I visited places, talked to them, asked them to come and be in the Veterans Day parade to honor our veterans, present and past, and we honored a marine today, which over 7,000 marines died there.

Coroner names victim of fatal house fire in Central City

State College fire company makes history with first all-female attack line response

Three firefighters from Alpha fire company in State College responded to a fire call in College Township last Thursday. What sounds like normal procedure turned into history as all three firefighters in the attack line were women. One of the firefighters Talia Chaloch said they have been seeing more women in each class that comes in. Chaloch told 6 News how every firefighter at Alpha is treated the same way.
